Earlier in February, Google formally unveiled the anticipated Android Wear 2.0. Along with its introduction, Google also revealed a list of current-generation watches eligible to get the update.
The list affirms that the Sony SmartWatch 3 won’t be receiving the major Android update everyone was waiting for. The news has not gone down well with SmartWatch 3 owners, as they were hoping to receive the update for their device.
No Android Wear 2.0 Update Confirmations
That the smartwatch will not be getting the Android Wear 2.0 Update has angered plenty of SmartWatch 3 users. However, Sony on its part has been clear about the fact since day one.
Unfortunately, most buyers skip reading the fine print of a product, where the caveats and disclaimers from companies lie in hidden sight. It is often seen that all the disappointing information is hidden in these small terms and conditions rather than the glossy product page.
The same has happened with Sony SmartWatch 3 as well. The product page of the SmartWatch 3, clearly states in its fine print that “SmartWatch 3 SWR50 supports up to Android Wear 1.5. Android Wear 2.0 and onwards are not supported.”
Sony SmartWatch 3 Owners Reaction
The fine print notwithstanding, the news has called upon the wrath of upset and angry users of the wearable even leading them to start a petition to force Sony to roll out the Android update for its SmartWatch 3.
Given that the SmartWatch 3 was launched in 2014 and will turn three years old, the consumers are not taking the news lightly as the petition has already received 2,926 signatures till now.
However, Sony has announced that the wearable won’t get any update as the three-year old SmartWatch 3 is far too old to handle the new version of Android update. According to Sony the SmartWatch 3’s “current operating system version delivered the most consistent and stable experience.”
Android Wear 2.0
Google’s Android Wear 2.0 allows users to customize the watch face according to their choice. The users can include custom information relay, as well as shortcuts for apps on the screen.
The new Android update comes pre-installed with Google’s fit app which lets the users keep a track of their running or walking pace, distance traveled, heart rate and calories burned while exercising.
Standalone apps is another distinguished feature of Android Wear 2.0. Standalone apps can function independently and do not require a phone app to work properly. With Android Wear 2.0 for the first time incorporates the Goole Assistant in smartwatches. Now, users can do things using voice commands.
SmartWatches Getting The Update
The first smartwatches to come pre-installed with Android Wear 2.0 were the LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport. Other than these two, the Asus ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch, LG G Watch, LG Urbane, Huawei Watch are also slated to receive the update. Source: techtimes
