Watch Dutch Reporters Brutalize Trump Ambassador Over False Claims About Muslims

US Ambassador to Netherlands Clashes with Dutch Reporters Over Remarks About Muslims Hoekstra silent over inaccurate Muslim claims on 1st day as US ambassador to Netherlands

During a news conference at the State Department's headquarters in Washington, Undersecretary Steve Goldstein told reporters that Pete Hoekstra, the new USA ambassador in the Netherlands, had "made comments that should not have been made" when asked about Hoekstra's statements about Muslim no-go zones and people being burned alive because of the Islamic movement. Hoekstra said there is "chaos in the Netherlands, there are cars being burned, there are politicians that are being burned".

Pete Hoekstra, a former Republican congressman for MI, was repeatedly asked about the comments made at an event sponsored by the right-wing David Horowitz Freedom Center.

This story was recalled last month, when a Dutch reporter buttonholed Hoekstra, picked by President Trump to be ambassador to the Netherlands, and asked him about the statement he made.

When Hoekstra ignored a reporter's question about the latter statement, one journalist said, "This is not how it works". One asked Hoekstra if he would be visiting "our no-go areas".

According to a recent report by CNN, Hoekstra has regularly made unsubstantiated claims about "no-go" zones and speculated that 15% of Muslims could be radical jihadis.

"Everybody there had one question: that insane statement you made, are you going to withdraw it?" said Roel Geeraedts, a political reporter at the Dutch television station RTL Nieuws in a phone interview about the event. "And yes, there are no-go zones in the Netherlands", Hoekstra says in the clip.

RTL political correspondent Roel Geeraedts, told the Washington Post in a telephone interview: 'We were all astonished he did not want to take back the comment. A silence followed but was broken when Hoekstra replied "thank you". It was awkward, to be honest'. Yet Hoekstra doubled down: "I didn't call that fake news". "That is actually an incorrect statement, we would call it "fake news", Hoekstra said. But he did not clarify whether the apology was meant to include the no-go zone comments when asked on Wednesday.

At the press conference, the Dutch media relentlessly pushed Hoekstra to say whether he still believes the original remarks he made. After some more discussion, Hoekstra then denied calling the statements fake news.

In another exchange, a reporter asked Hoekstra to look at a John Adams quote mounted on a fireplace that states a concern that only "honest and wise men ever rule under this roof". "He's been received well by the Dutch government, and we hope that he can be received well by the people of the Netherlands".

Footage of Wednesday's news conference shows Hoekstra taking questions from journalists who asked several times if Hoekstra was wrong about cars and politicians being burned.
