Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Voyage of Doctor Dolittle' Gets an All-Star Cast

It seems Robert Downey Jr will be joined by some stellar talent on Doctor Dolittle, including one of his Marvel co-stars.

Still, we can't wait to see what the hell Tony Stark has to say to a bunch of animals! Now, we're getting a bit more insight as to who will be sharing the silver screen alongside Downey Jr. when he stars as the doctor with an uncanny ability to talk to animals. Gomes will reportedly voice one of the animals while the roles of the other stars are not known at this point. Aside from Gomez, Tom Holland, Emma Thomspon, and Ralph Fiennes are all slated to voice critters. Banderas and Sheen will play live action roles, with Banderas playing a pirate named Rassouli and Sheen playing Mudfly.

Universal's The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be released in theaters April 12th, 2019. The film, which begins production later this month on location in London, is from Oscar-winning Traffic writer-director Stephen Gaghan. (Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes) playing the title role. There was also a spin-off straight to home video film from that series called Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief, which hit in 2008.

The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle is an adaptation of the Hugh Lofting children's books from the 1920s.

Dolittle's nemesis, Banderas, stars as Picasso in the latest season of the National Geographic series Genius.

Universal acquired the project previous year, which will be directed by Stephen Gaghan from a screenplay he wrote with an earlier draft by Tom Sheppard. Eddie Murphy starred in the 1998 film "Doctor Dolittle" and its 2001 sequel, which cumulatively grossed more than $470 million at the worldwide box office.
