There is still some uncertainty with regards to where the band of heaviest snow will set up.

WHAT.Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected. It's going to be slippery on the roads for the drive home tonight and the morning commute tomorrow.

Snow will begin to develop over northern parts of the state on Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm watch for Wednesday and forecast the possibility of up to a foot of snow as a major Nor'easter blows through the region.

Snow will linger into Saturday with another inch or two possible through the morning.

“We expect about 5 to 8 inches when it finally stops, ” Frey said.

Most schools are closed. See full list here.

Chicago officials say they are ready. We'll pick up less than an inch, and not everyone will see flakes. "Now, Chicago is used to this". "Anything we put down will just wash away before the snow actually got here".

The Illinois Department of Transportation tweeted road conditions were deteriorating Thursday night across the top of the state as the system neared Chicago. Take it slow in the snow!

Get ready, Chicago-the biggest snowstorm of the season is heading your way. Eight inches was reported in parts of northern IL and up to 6 inches in the Chicago area.

Snow from a winter storm moving across the Great Lakes is leaving roads treacherous, closing schools and cancelling hundreds of flights across the upper Midwest.

The Chicago Department of Aviation reports Friday morning that about 550 flights were cancelled at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and about 230 flights were cancelled at Chicago's Midway Airport. More than 200 flights were canceled at Detroit Metropolitan Airport by early Friday. At this time, we have LOW CONFIDENCE in how much snow will fall.

Despite the amount of snow that has fallen in southeast MI, were not in record territory yet said Frey.

It made for a great day for kids to go sledding, make snow angels and play with pets outside instead of reading, writing and arithmetic.
