Microsoft is today releasing Windows 10 Build 17618 to the Windows Insiders opted into Skip Ahead, and unlike the previous releases, this new build brings a number of new features along with improvements.

Yes, Microsoft will take this separate version of Windows, which shipped on the Surface Laptop and other machines, and turn it into a mode next year. Microsoft says such information helps it improve its products and services, but privacy advocates and regulators haven't always agreed.

Microsoft said the new privacy settings will roll out to customers with the next Windows 10 update this spring.

While this idea seems to add more versatility to Windows, it will have to be explained well, so consumers are not confused when buying newer devices from Microsoft.

Obviously, all of this stuff works better on modern hardware. Now codenamed Redstone 5, this is the first major feature we've seen appear in test builds so far.

PC World contacted him to seek clarification on why Microsoft hadn't included any info on the Windows 10 S version in its blog posts.

Microsoft and OEM partners have already started selling low-end notebooks running Windows 10 S for as little as $189 in an attempt to combat low-priced Chromebooks that have become popular across various industry verticals, but especially in the educational and business sectors.

As is often the case, Microsoft Head of Hair, Joe Belfiore made the confirmation on Twitter. It can't run any regular Windows programs, instead relying exclusively on apps from the Microsoft Store. "I think it's totally fine/good that it's not mentioned". The majority of Windows 10 S products have been low-priced PCs aimed at education, where the ability to lockdown the platform is a welcome control for administrators.

An oft cited complaint, or even reason not to upgrade to Windows 10, is due to privacy concerns.
