New CDC numbers released today showed that opioid overdoses increased a staggering 30 percent from July 2016 through September 2017.

"Long before we receive data from death certificates, emergency department data can point to alarming increases in opioid overdoses", CDC Acting Director Dr. Anne Schuchat explained in a statement. "We think emergency departments are essential hubs in this fast-moving epidemic".

Schuchat called the report "very, very concerning" and said it served as a "wake-up call about the need to improve what happens when a patient leaves the emergency department".

But the opioid epidemic also fueled increased overdose rates in the West (40 percent), Northeast (21 percent), Southwest (20 percent), and Southeast (14 percent).

Overdose rates showed a significant increase across all areas.

The report compiled from emergency departments in 45 states found overdoses rose 109 percent in Wisconsin, 66 percent in IL, 35 percent in IN, 28 percent in OH and 21 percent in Missouri. Additionally, emergency departments can develop post opioid-overdose protocol, health care providers can assess a patient's drug history and only prescribe opioids when the benefits outweigh the risks, and all people can better educate themselves on opioids and the current crisis surrounding their misuse. Wisconsin led the states with a 108 percent spike.

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, an Ohio Republican, said the report found a 54 percent increase in overdoses from July 2016 to September 2017 in the major metro areas of 16 states, including Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.

The rate rose most in the Midwest - 70 percent, including a 65 percent hike in IL.

That investigation demonstrated a 34.5 percent expansion between similar periods in 2016 and 2017. No region or demographic group was spared, and two states - Wisconsin and DE - saw overdose visits to their emergency rooms more than double.

For example, overdoses increased 105 percent in DE, compared with 80.6 percent in Pennsylvania and 34 percent in Maine.

In spite of the fact that the Trump organization as of late announced the epidemic to be a crisis, a noteworthy increment in subsidizing is direly expected to treat Americans dependent on opioids.

The survey did find small declines in overdose visits in a few states, including MA and New Hampshire.

Overdose-related trips to emergency departments increased among all age groups and both sexes and increased at the largest rate in the biggest cities.
