The Greek government ordered the indefinite suspension of Super League action, following violent incidents during the PAOK Salonica v. AEK Athens derby match on Sunday night which led to its abandonment.

PAOK's owner, businessman Ivan Savvidis, came on the field twice and was accompanied by bodyguards.

What did the owner do?

Police are investigating a football club owner who allegedly marched on to the pitch armed with a weapon.

A leading European league has been suspended after a key game ended in chaos Sunday when the president of a Greek club entered the pitch during the match with a handgun holstered on his waist.

The committee also erased its decision to have PAOK play their next two home matches behind closed doors.

Shocking scenes unfolded in last nights game between PAOK Salonika and AEK Athens, when PAOK's president brought a gun onto the pitch after the game to consult the referee. However, referee Georgios Kominis disallowed the goal, ruling that the player was offside. Until then the match had been a goalless draw.

However, the Greek government took the extraordinary move to suspend the Superleague until further notice following a meeting between Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras and deputy sports minister George Vassiliadis on Monday. The match was subsequently abandoned as Savvidis was escorted from the field. "We have achieved much, but much remains to be done", the Greek official said.

'We will not allow anyone to divert us from our task, even if we have to, in consultation with UEFA, to take hard decisions'.

Federation Internationale de Football Association said: "Given that this incident occurred in the context of a national competition, any disciplinary measure to be imposed falls under the jurisdiction of the deciding bodies of the Greek FA". "We all witnessed the way our opponents try to turn every single minor incident against us", the statement reads.

Olympiacos coach Oscar Garcia, the former Brighton and Watford boss, was hit by an object thrown from the crowd, which was reported to be a toilet roll.
