Gettleman on Odell Beckham: 'You don't quit on talent'

NY doesn't have to rush into a decision and, as co-owner John Mara said Sunday, while they are open to offers, they are not actively looking to trade Beckham Jr. We're not looking to get rid of him, OK?

"Neither Odell nor his agent have contacted us regarding either report", Gettleman said.

Owner John Mara sounded plain mad when talking about Beckham's appearance in a video that may or may not have featured some illicit contraband.

While the 25-year-old's antics are well documented-on Monday, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, he claimed that he would not play this season unless a contract extension is agreed-his talent remains unquestionable. "The unfortunate thing for me is there's just not a lot of him playing football in a Giants helmet, which would have been a good thing for me to see moving forward". As it stands, he's set to make around $8.5 million during the 2018 season as part of his fifth-year option.

"I think it's important that you get all the information", Shurmur said.

In no way does this suggest a trade is going to happen, or that the Rams and Giants are deep in talks on a deal.

The Giants, in April, chose to pick up the fifth-year option in Beckham's rookie contract for 2018 (worth approximately $8.5 million), but he would be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2018 season.

The speculation began in earnest shortly after a compromising video appeared on social media of Beckham.

While Beckham only attended mandatory offseason activities last season, choosing to train in Los Angeles instead, Shurmur said it's especially crucial for him and other players to be there this season with a new coaching staff coming in. 'It's important as coaches and players and anybody who is working together to visit and get a chance to know one another. It might be a pipe dream, but given how well Cleveland's offseason has gone, you never know.

Beckham was the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year and has been New York's best offensive weapon when healthy.
