Christopher Wylie worked for Cambridge Analytica (CA), which is accused of using the private data of 50million Facebook users during Donald Trump's 2016 United States election bid for the White House.

Divya Spandana, director of social media and digital communications for the Congress Party, denied hiring Cambridge Analytica but said she was aware of a proposal to a state leader who "may have" met with Cambridge Analytica's team in India to manage text messaging and on-the-ground polling during state elections in Bihar in 2010, although it was unclear whether that work was ever done.

"It is what modern day colonialism looks like", he told the MPs.

2010 Bihar State Elections SCL India was asked to provide electoral research and strategy for the 2010 State Elections for the Janata Dal (United).

CA/SCL has a database of over 600 districts and seven lakh villages in India and it helps "clients to identify and target key groups within the population to effectively influence their behaviour to realise the desired outcome", the pictures shared by him read.

Wylie added that "Aggregate IQ, which received 40% of vote leave's funding, also worked on projects that involved hacked material and kompromat and distributing violent videos of people being bled to death to intimidate voters and this is the company that played an incredibly pivotal role in politics here".

"He said that as the "world's largest democracy with lots and lots of elections all the time", India was a prime source of business" and asked for more details of Cambridge Analytica's involvement there.

He also revealed that CA has offices and employees working in India in different places. But I know that they have done all kinds of projects, both regional.

The earliest instance of the company's association with India, according to the document is the 2003 Rajasthan state elections. "But they do have offices there, they do have staff there", the 28-year-old had said on Tuesday.

The Home Office told MEE on Friday that it did not have any current contracts with the SCL Group or linked companies and said: "The department made a one off payment of £500 to the SCL Group in 2009 for a training course". Unlike the U.S. and UK, India has no data protection or privacy laws that would be violated by unauthorised mining of Facebook data.

India's main opposition party has become thoroughly embroiled in the Cambridge Analytica (CA) voter-manipulation scandal. However, as Recode notes, the Cambridge Analytica leak was not through a Partner Categories association, but rather because a developer chose to sell user information to a third party.

On March 21, Indian law and information technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had warned Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg of action if his company had allowed any data theft from the country. "We said the server should be hosted in India only".

Responding to the comments, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had challenged Prasad to produce evidence that the INC hired Cambridge Analytica (CA). Cambridge Analytica executives said the company worked for Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta's 2013 and 2017 campaigns, in addition to operating in countries like Malaysia and Brazil.

The data breach and resulting privacy concerns caused an uproar among millions of Facebook users, leading to the growing #DeleteFacebook movement to urge users to deactivate their profiles.
