Alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur is now facing a seventh murder charge involving a missing man whose family initially thought he had abandoned his wife and two daughters.

Bruce McArthur, who appeared in court through a video link, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Abdulbasir Faizi.

Police have been trying to identify the remains of several men found at a property McArthur used as storage for his landscaping business.

McArthur, 66, is set to appear in court this morning, just hours before Toronto police scheduled to provide an update on the ongoing investigation.

Investigators have identified six sets of remains so far - 49-year-old Andrew Kinsman, 50-year-old Soroush Mahmudi, 40-year-old Skandaraj Navaratnam and now 44-year-old Esen, 42-year-old Faizi and 42-year-old Lisowick.

Foremost is the newest murder charge against McArthur that has been made possible by the identification of another body. McArthur has already been charged in the deaths of the other two men, Majeed Kayhan and Skandaraj Navaratnam, included in the Project Houston probe.

Idsinga says the remains of alleged victim Majeed Kayhan have not been identified.

Police are also waiting for warmer weather to investigate other properties associated with McArthur, Idsinga said.

Mr. Faizi's auto was found early in 2011 on Moore Ave, not far from the property where Mr. McArthur stored his landscaping tools, and where a number of the bodies have been located.

Idsinga said the investigation has expanded to include 15 homicide cold cases from 1975 to 1997.

Abdulbasir Faizi is shown in a Toronto Police Service handout photo.

Det. -Sgt. Idsinga says police are preparing to expand their search for human remains to 75 locations in the Metro Toronto area where McArthur worked as a landscaper.

Police also have evidence that leads them to believe that Lisowick was killed in April of 2016, he said. The photo was released with the hope that a member of the public may be able to identify him. McArthur was interviewed by police during that project but it was closed in 2014.

A police officer carries containers outside a house on Mallory Crescent in Toronto, where Bruce McArthur did landscape work, on Monday, January 29, 2018. He was reported missing to Peel Region police the next day.

"We've quite frankly never seen anything like it", Idsinga said.
