Trump insisted that France not act before the USA, lest he be upstaged by his younger French counterpart, with whom he's fostered a close friendship after their relationship began with a tense, white-knuckled handshake in Brussels.

British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed her government's involvement, saying there was "no practicable alternative to the use of force".

Many world leaders said the airstrikes were "necessary and appropriate." .

French President Emmanuel Macron said the strikes had been limited so far to Syria's chemical weapons facilities.

She said Russian Federation had thwarted diplomatic efforts to halt Assad's use of poison gas, leaving no option but force. U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said that "right now, this is a one-time shot and I believe it has sent a very strong message to dissuade him, to deter him".

American military spokesmen have also been insistent that "No Syrian weapon had any effect on anything we did".

It was evident early on that Trump was intent on taking action to punish the Syrian regime for its actions. "We can not take such risks", said Dvorkovich, speaking at a forum.

During a Thursday meeting with Trump and top military officials, Trump grew upset at the options being presented, according to people familiar with the conversations.

US President Donald Trump has praised the US-led coalition missile strikes on Syria claiming the air raids were "perfectly executed".

Western powers blamed President Bashar al-Assad, but Syria and its ally Russian Federation categorically denied the claims and accused the West of "fabricating" the incident to justify military action. "No nation can succeed in the long run by promoting rogue states, brutal tyrants, and murderous dictators", Trump said. US officials said they could not yet confirm that.

Russian Federation reacted to the air strikes saying that once again they were being threatened and such actions by the United States will not be excused. He's spent extended portions of each day in fits of anger.

It vowed in its statement that the fact-finding mission due to go to Douma later Saturday "will continue its deployment to the Syrian Arab Republic to establish facts around the allegations of chemical weapons use in Douma".

She authorized the strikes without parliamentary backing and it's not clear she would have got it if she'd sought it. Parliament refused United Kingdom participation in a planned punitive raid on Syria in 2013, one of the reasons then-U.S. President Barack Obama called it off. There won't be anything, or anyone, even close!

Friday's strikes appear to signal Trump's willingness to draw the United States more deeply into the Syrian conflict.

"As always, we oppose the use of force in worldwide relations and call for respect for other countries' sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity", a spokesperson for the Chinese government said.

Rafah al-Okda, a 21-year-old nursing student at Damascus University, said she had not changed her routine following the threats. Trump, meanwhile, retreated to his third floor residence to watch coverage of the strikes on television.
