James had won 21 first-round playoff games in a row until the rout, having never before lost the opener in a first-round National Basketball Association postseason series.

Game two of the series is set for Tuesday night in Boston and is sure to be a thriller after today's whirlwind fourth quarter.

Antetokounmpo got free for a dunk, But Horford was steady again after being fouled, connecting on two more from the line with 15.2 seconds left. "That's what this series is going to be". The last few seconds of the regulation tilt were extremely interesting as first Terry Rozier scored a triple to give the Celtics a 3-point lead with just 0.5 seconds remaining, but when everybody expected that was it, Khris Middleton made a three from near midcourt to send the game to overtime. Malcolm Brogdon scored all 16 of his points after halftime for Milwaukee. But the Bucks shot nearly seven percent better than the C's from the field at 48.2 percent compared to 41.5 percent.

"It's forcing our group to grow up quicker than maybe some of our guys were supposed to", forward Al Horford said.

Antetokounmpo would knock down two free throws to cut the Celtics lead to 91-89, before Horford would extend the lead to 92-89 with 56 seconds left. "Morris made some big shots, Tatum down the stretch, Terry - that's what we're all about".

But after a Milwaukee timeout advanced the ball to half court, Middleton matched it with his own 3 over Jaylen Brown as time expired.

What mattered most was the Celtics always made sure that it was within reach, and they could play the way the wanted too.

Antetokounmpo was able to tie up Tatum for a jump ball off a defensive miss and got to the line for one shot with 53.6 seconds to go.

"I think everybody probably thought the game was over with 0.5 (seconds) left", Morris said.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens has praised the mettle of his team through dramatic comebacks and injuries that would have debilitated most squads all season.

After leading by as much as nine points with 4:44 left to play in the game, the Celtics saw their lead cut to two, 86-84, with 2:39 to play in the game following a layup by Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Five Celtics scored more than 19 points, with Morris being one of them, as he dropped 21 off the bench for the C's.

It was 108-106 when Horford snared a rebound and got it ahead to Rozier, who was fouled.

The 24-year-old guard was a horse in his first career playoff start, totaling 40:29 minutes while scoring 23 points on 7-for-18 shooting. Boston defended well in overtime and deservedly took a 1-0 lead in the series.

The "kids" on the squad came through on the big stage as Rozier scored eight of his 23 points in overtime, Jaylen Brown scored 20 points while playing nearly 46 minutes, and rookie Jayson Tatum scored 19 points to go with 10 rebounds in 44 minutes. Rebounds - Mil 42 (Antetokounmpo 13), B 45 (Horford 12).
