Axios reported Sunday that Trump was upset when he learned Pence was hiring Jon Lerner to advise him on national security and foreign policy.

He said the strike was "effective, overwhelming and successful", and that Syrian President Bashar Assad "and his patrons would do well not to test our resolve" to deter the use of chemical weapons in the future.

There "will be a price to pay" if Syria ever uses chemical weapons again, as the USA is ready to take additional action, Pence told reporters travelling with him to Peru to attend the Summit of the Americas.

Washington D.C. [USA], April 15 (ANI): United States Vice President Michael Pence on Saturday said that Russian Federation is "on the wrong side of the war" while referring to recent strikes on Syria by the USA along with Germany and France.

Responding to a question, Pence said that the United States message to Russian Federation is: "You're on the wrong side of history".

While the crisis in Syria was front and centre, Trudeau and Pence expressed optimism about the state of NAFTA negotiations, the results of which will have dramatic ramifications for the USA and Canada. Pence, for his part, told Trudeau that the US was "encouraged" by the progress and hopeful it can lead to "more fair and reciprocal trade".

Seated alongside Trudeau, Pence said there was a "real possibility" the US could reach a deal with Canada and Mexico on NAFTA "within the next several weeks".

Seeking rapprochement with Mexico, which has been at odds with Trump over the border wall and immigration, Pence said the topic of funding for Trump's long-promised border wall did not come up in his meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

Shortly before Trump's address to the nation Friday night, Pence was whisked away from the summit in his motorcade so he could return to his hotel to inform congressional leaders of the pending missile strikes.

But US relations with Mexico had soured in recent weeks as US President Donald Trump has sought to link the trade talks to Mexican efforts to stop migrants illegally crossing the border into the US, and ordered National Guard troops to the border.
