North and South Korea are mulling over plans to officially end the state of war that has existed on the Korean peninsula for the last 68 years.
Though the original story is in Korean, the message is loud and clear regardless of language: North and South Korea might finally announce a peaceful, official ending to the Korean War that started in 1950.
While the date and location of the three-way summit have not been announced, the North-South Korean meeting is set for April 27.
Ending the military tensions between the neighboring nations could become a major part of the summit between South Korea President Moon Jae-in and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un (l.).
Reclusive North Korea has been pursuing nuclear and missile programs in defiance of UN Security Council sanctions.
For the better part of previous year, North Korea continued to defy global officials' pleas to cease countless nuclear missile and bomb tests, even going so far as to threaten the USA territory of Guam after fierce words from Trump demanding a halt to their increased military activity and bomb testing.
But Kim has changed course since the beginning of the year, sending a delegation to the Winter Olympics held in South Korea in February and agreeing to discuss with South Korea and the United States a nuclear program the North has defended as a necessary deterrent against USA invasion.

No peace treaty has been signed to replace the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean War, and the US and North Korea have been at loggerheads since formal hostilities ended.
