The micro-blogging site failed to load, with users being redirected to a default landing page.

"Something is technically wrong", the website reads.

Twitter, went offline at about 7 pm on Tuesday.

According to downdetector, the problems started just after 3pm in some countries, with the United States, Japan and parts of Europe reporting down time.

Twitter is one of the most popular social network websites in the world with more than 330 million active subscribers (as of October 2017).

The outage seems to have hit Twitter across both platforms: web as well as app. "Thanks for noticing-we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon", when they tried to access their accounts.

Most of the reported outages in the US appeared to be concentrated along the East Coast.

According to US' Newsweek, in New York City, almost 300 official reports have been made to downdetector.
