3D Touch not an option on the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone

New screen tech may mean the end of 3D Touch on one of this year's new iPhones Apple to drop 3D Touch on entry level iPhones, will use Cover glass sensor

The phone might also include a thin-film sensor as well as the touch film sensor.

As reported earlier and several times before, the affordable 6.1-inch iPhone will not have 3D Touch.

The other two iPhone models are expected to release in 2018 -the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone and the 6.5-inch OLED smartphone which might be realised as an iPhone X Plus will still continue with the 3D Touch functionality. Now, this could be an issue for those used to the 3D Touch on premium iPhones, which is also responsible for defining the qualities of the iPhone's user experience.

Maybe the new goal that apple has is the introduction of the iPhones with touch less gesture controls and maybe the CGS and the thin film sensor that is to be present I the new iPhones are surely a step towards that.

Ever trusty Apple future-gazer KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, has revealed details about the iPhone tough screen which will use Cover Glass Sensor (CGS) tech. This updated display will supposedly raise the total cost of screen construction to between $23 and $26. This is mainly attributed to its much more affordable price tag and the similarities in features with the pricier 2018 iPhone X and iPhone X Plus.

Apple spent five years developing 3D Touch on its newer iPhone models. For example, lightly tapping an app icon on an iPhone home screen will open the app, but pressing firmly on the icon will open a menu of shortcuts and widgets. He says that this method results in a display that's lighter and more shock resistant.

Other reports also suggest that Apple will ditch 3D Touch from all of its phone starting from 2019. However, Kuo reports that Apple will continue to support this feature on high-end iPhones for at least a year before dropping it completely.
