Shares of Match Group Inc MTCH.O and its parent IAC IAC.O plunged, wiping some $5 billion (£3.67 billion) off their combined market values, after Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said his social media platform would develop its own dating app to rival Tinder, Match and others. While highlighting Facebook "Watch Party", allowing users to watch video together, Zuckerberg said it's flawless for if "your friend is testifying in front of Congress, for example".

"We need to make sure that never happens again", Zuckerberg told the audience.

Zuckerberg even found time to make a joke about his recent congressional testimony on the data leak.

On Tuesday, members of Parliament reiterated a threat to formally summon Zuckerberg to testify in the United Kingdom, with a May 24 deadline.

A prototype displayed on screens at the F8 conference showed a heart shape at the top-right corner of the Facebook app. "We can do this without storing the information in a way that's associated with your account", wrote Erin Egan. The company came under fire in March for how it handles users' data after the Cambridge Analytica scandal came to light. Koum clashed with Facebook over its approach to encryption and personal data, according to a Washington Post report. The issue was resolved but it was unclear exactly which Facebook updates caused the issues for Tinder. He did not specify when exactly the process will re-open.

The announcement comes ahead of Facebook's annual developer conference F8 in San Jose on Tuesday.

But Zuckerberg suggested that Facebook would not slow down and wouldn't distance itself from developers as it prioritizes data privacy.

"Now you can bring your friends together", Zuckerberg said to chuckles.

"The Committee feels that the evidence lacked numerous important details that we need", notes the letter, before listing no less than 39 "unanswered questions/points for follow up".

"Yes, this is an important moment".

"Your Facebook won't be quite as good as it relearns your preferences", said Zuckerberg. There are 200 million people who have marked themselves as single on Facebook, he said.

Facebook and the developers on its platform, he said, "have a responsibility to move forward.to keep building services that help us connect in meaningful new ways". The CEO explained that the app was designed with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning. "Your friends aren't going to see this". That prompted an outcry that Facebook was mishandling people's data. Once created, you can meet with friends in VR to watch 360-degree videos, play games and take virtual selfies. Zuckerberg said WhatsApp will also be getting a group video-calling feature soon. "You can laugh together".
