Boeing to lose $20B as Trump withdraws from Iran pact

RTR33NPZ OPEC chief: Ditching Iran deal would harm global economy

Iran is the third largest supplier of crude oil to India after Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

The sanctions on oil will require European and Asian countries to reduce their imports from Iran, the paper said.

Under the 2015 agreement, Iran agreed to curb its nuclear activities in return for the lifting of sanctions imposed by the UN, US and EU.

Trump is expected to announce that he will allow sanctions to go forward on Iran, a first step toward withdrawing from the nuclear deal, according to a United States official and a person familiar with the plan.

The Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday expressed concern on the United States' (US) withdrawal from the so-called Iran deal, saying that the decision will affect the world community's efforts to solve the "conflict" with Iran.

China, a voracious consumer of oil, holds great sway because it's Iran's biggest customer.

"We feel that the extraterritoriality of their sanction measures are unacceptable", he told the French daily Le Parisien.

However, they bounced back strongly in Asia and there is talk it could continue rising to $80 a barrel, with gains helped by uncertainty in oil-rich Venezuela, the OPEC-Russia output cap, improving global demand and data pointing to a drop in U.S. stockpiles. "There are worries that Iran's oil exports could fall by about 1 million barrels per day (bpd) from current levels", said Tomomichi Akuta, senior economist at Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting in Tokyo. Prices have gained over 8% over the past month and 15% since the beginning of the year.

USA president Donald Trump's decision to reinstate sanctions on Iran will not have much impact on India's trade relations with Iran, Commerce Secretary Rita Teotia said on Wednesday.

During the visit, India and Iran signed almost a dozen pacts, centrepiece of which was an agreement on development of Chabahar port.

"We believe the previous 1 million BPD (barrel per day) limit for exports (imposed during previous sanctions) will be reimposed".

Trump has repeatedly threatened to rip up the Iran accord, which he has described as "the worst deal ever".

To pressure allies, the US intends to apply "secondary sanctions" on non-American firms that do business with Iran.

"The average family out there can expect to pay about $200 more than they paid last driving season and about $250 more than the 2016 driving season", says Kloza.

The US government has said that exemptions for those dealing with Iran are possible, although it has not yet given any details about which companies could benefit.
