Prof Kolapo Olusola has been declared victor of the Ekiti State PDP Primaries held at Eagle Hall, Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.

The deputy governor, who praised Gov. Ayo Fayose for standing by him, vowed to defeat the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming July 14 governorship election in the state.

The party's primary scheduled to hold in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti capital, would be presided over by the Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as chairman of the electoral panel.

It said the Osun and Ekiti electoral thresholds will guide the party's electioneering processes at all levels, particularly, our presidential primary.

No fewer than 1, 968 delegates were accredited for voting.

Giving reasons for stepping down for Adeyeye, she said, "We had a party where we didn't have a voice, where everything was lorded over us".

"It is only when people want to serve themselves, they coerce citizens to queue behind them through imposition rather than selling themselves or their preferred candidates to the people who should have the ultimate power to elect or not to elect anyone as their leader in a democracy".

Both aspirants expressed satisfaction with the exercise. He also commended Adeyeye and Olujimi for their spirit of sportsmanship.

He said the PDP would record another "16-0" in July election. I commend all the delegates for exercising their civic right.

"I am collapsing my structure to brighten the chances of Prince Dayo Adeyeye and make sure no single aspirant has undue advantage over others. I appeal to them in the overall interest of the party to work for our common goal".

Mr Fayose, in his remarks on the primaries, jokingly recommended Mr Okowa to the APC for the conduct of its rescheduled primaries.

The Nation reports that while addressing a news conference on Monday, May 7, the aspirants led by former Governor Segun Oni said they were not in support of the position of the National Working Committee (NWC) as canvassed by the APC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi. Even when elections are scheduled for a particular date, some people in other parties will still fix it for another day, because they can't get their acts together.

He said Adeyeye had told him of his acceptance of the results before leaving.

"It was a very tough contention and just before Adeyeye left the hall, he came to tell me he was satisfied with the conduct of the exercise".
