OIC to meet in Istanbul Friday to mull Israel violence

Turkey on Tuesday urged Islamic countries to review their ties with Israel and said it would call an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) after the illegal state forces massacred dozens of Palestinians during protests in Gaza on Monday.

Thousands of Palestinians had gathered on Gaza Strip's eastern border Monday to take part in protests aimed to commemorate the Nakba anniversary and protest the relocation of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Israel's Foreign Ministry said the Turkish Consul-General in Jerusalem had been summoned and told to return to Turkey "for consultations for a period of time". Reportedly, such a decision was made by the Israeli Agriculture Ministry after the two countries recalled their ambassadors.

According to diplomatic sources speaking on condition of anonymity, the ministry told Sfari to leave following indiscriminate violence and killings by Israeli soldiers along the Gaza border.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had also launched a bitter attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he led an "apartheid state" and had Palestinian blood on his hands. The government declared three days of mourning.

Since the Gaza rallies kicked off on March 30, scores of Palestinian demonstrators have been killed - and thousands injured - by Israeli troops deployed along the other side of the border.

The Organization for Islamic Cooperation is the second largest intergovernmental platform in the world, following the United Nations, and has 57 member states in four continents.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani and his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim held a phone conversation on Thuesday over the Israeli aggression against Palestinian demonstrators, local media reported Wednesday.
