Alexander-Arnold gets England call as Hart, Wilshere axed

Alexander-Arnold gets World Cup call 2018 Russia World Cup: England picks youthful squad; Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford in, veteran Joe Hart left out

The official 23 man England squad for this summer's World Cup in Russian Federation has been announced.

Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has earned a call up to the England squad, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

There is a distinct lack of creativity in England's midfield after Southgate chose to overlook Jack Wilshere and Jonjo Shelvey too.

"Maybe this picture said I was gonna live my dream and go to a World Cup. dreams do come true", - Manchester United defender Ashley Young wrote alongside a photo of him in an England kit as a child.

"History tells us that one of those standby players may end up in the squad, as it's very unusual for us to get through the end of the season and our two preparation games without any issues", Southgate added.

Premier League champions Manchester City and runners-up Manchester United both have four representatives.

He may not have a seat on the plane but Lallana's Liverpool teammates Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were both included. We have got some great young players.

Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill has been given a place, while Pope will join Everton's Jordan Pickford and Stoke's Jack Butland as the squad's keepers.

He was one of six players aged 23 and under alongside John Stones, Dele Alli, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling and Alexander-Arnold. Abraham was demoted to the England U-21 team, for the Three Lions last friendlies against Netherlands and Italy and his dip in form cause him his World Cup place.

Rashford furthered his urban legend by scoring twice in his first Premier League start against Arsenal - a game which United won 3-2 despite being heavily undermanned for the fixture.

"The selection process has been over months really, it's not just been the last few weeks".

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is Southgate's biggest gamble but the Chelsea midfielder, who spent the season on loan at Crystal Palace, was outstanding against Germany and Brazil last November and so has earned the chance to impress in Russian Federation.

England will play two matches before travelling to Russian Federation on June 2 against Nigeria at Wembley and on June 7 against Costa Rica at Elland Road. We've played Jake in several matches and he's done a job for the team.
