An Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo has a high risk of spreading internally, the World Health Organization warned Friday ahead of a meeting on whether to declare it an event of global concern.

It is noted that now the situation became much more serious after all, before the distribution occurred exclusively in rural areas, however, recent distribution already identified in the big city, namely in Equateur province, Mbandaka.

The European Commission has announced a package of urgent humanitarian aid to help contain an outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

So far, 23 people have reportedly died and until Thursday, there were more than 40 suspected or confirmed cases.

Congo's Ministry of Health has announced 11 new confirmed Ebola cases and two deaths tied to cases in the country's northwest.

A total of 45 cases of Ebola have now been reported in Congo in this outbreak: 14 confirmed, 21 probable and 10 suspected, the ministry said, after results from lab tests returned Thursday. There had been 25 deaths, but no new infections among healthworkers, Jasarevic told reporters.

"If you remember from the previous outbreak, it took a whole lot for the worldwide community to understand it's a risky disease.Today it seems as if as soon as the first case was declared at least a lot of people are coming in to help", said Axelle Ronsse of the organisation.

Previously, the DRC had successfully managed the Ebola outbreaks but the hemorrhagic fever spread into an urban area is posing a major challenge to combat the outbreak. It can spread rapidly through contact with small amounts of bodily fluid, and its early flu-like symptoms are not always obvious.

The WHO has deployed doses of the experimental vaccine along with emergency teams and equipment Congo.

The current outbreak involves the same strain of the virus that hit three West African countries in 2013-15 and sparked an worldwide panic. Under surveillance is placed, as mentioned above, more than five hundred people, one way or another had contact with the infected.

The Ebola virus is transmitted to humans from animals and has an estimated 50-percent fatality rate, according to the WHO.

Those exposed will for the first time in Congo receive Ebola vaccinations, the health minister said.

Many of these people were in remote areas, Mr Salama said.

This is the ninth outbreak, since the discovery of the Ebola virus in the country in 1976. The virus can be fatal in up to 90% of cases, depending on the strain.
