New lava flow crosses onto Hawaii geothermal plant property

Hawaii officials order some residents to flee from fast lava Infrared images reveal damage on Hawaii's Big Island

The continuous flow of lava and the fissures that are erupting from the Kilauea volcano were captured in the latest aerial shots by the Hawaii Army National Guard.

The Hawaii Volcano Observatory announced the development on Sunday morning.

Officials previously moved 50,000 gallons of potentially toxic gas offsite and capped the wells on the property to prevent releases of additional gas if lava enters the wells.

A lava flow from Hawaii's erupting Kilauea volcano that damaged a geothermal power station has stalled, as have lava fountains gushing 100 feet (30 meters) into the air, offering momentary relief to an area under siege for 25 days, officials said on Monday.

And on Sunday night, after authorities went door-to-door to urge remaining residents in a portion of Leilani Estates to get out, firefighters scrambled to rescue a man whose driveway was covered by fast-moving lava.

"Several residents were evacuated in advance of the unsafe and fast-moving flows", the HVO said.

Lava engulfed two wells at a geothermal plant, however, there were no emissions of hydrogen sulphide.

An incredible timelapse video has emerged showing lava from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano invading a backyard as it now enters its fourth week of destructive eruptions.

At least 82 homes have been destroyed in the southeast corner of the Big Island and about 2,000 people have been ordered evacuated since Kilauea's once-in-a-century eruption started on May 3.

"At this time, the lava is, at various points, 200 yards from active wells", Mace said.

A series of explosions from the Kilauea volcano on the archipelago of Hawaii in the United States on Saturday spewed ash up to 12,000 feet into the air, according to the US Geological Survey. "Primary concern is sulfur dioxide from the eruption and lava coming on site".

That's nearly 4 square miles.
