Late last month, the supreme leader outlined Iran's demands for it to stay in the nuclear deal.

The head of the UN's nuclear watchdog on Monday called on Iran to ensure "timely and proactive cooperation" with inspections mandated under the 2015 deal with world powers over its nuclear programme.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the increase in nuclear enrichment in a speech on Monday.

European signatories are scrambling to save the accord, which they see as crucial to forestalling an Iranian nuclear weapon, by seeking to ring-fence trade with Iran against new US financial sanctions to dissuade Tehran from quitting the deal.

As European states and China reiterated their commitment to the nuclear deal, Iran's foreign ministry stated that in spite of Washington's move, Tehran would abide by its obligations under the deal, calling on the global community to stand up against "US law-breaking behavior, bullying and disregard for the rule of law". In a letter from Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to his counterparts last week, he asked "the remaining signatories and other trade partners" to "make up for Iran's losses" caused by the USA exit, if they sought to save the deal.

Supporters also fear the reimposition of USA sanctions could hit European firms that have done business with Iran since the accord was signed.

'It's important to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. "We will continue our support for oppressed nations", Khamenei said.

Under the 2015 accord signed by Iran, the US, France, Germany, the UK, Russia, and China, Iran's uranium enrichment was strictly limited, removing its ability to produce a nuclear weapon.

It is doing so in Syria, in Yemen and other places", the Israeli prime minister said, adding that in Syria, Iran was trying to place its forces "with the explicit goal of...
