A new timetable for the flight - now postponed until at least mid-2019 and likely longer - hasn't been released by Space Exploration Technologies Corp., the formal name of the closely held company.

A large commercial satellite is safely in orbit after an early Monday blastoff from Cape Canaveral atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that was flying for the second time. The satellite was set to be deployed roughly 32 minutes after liftoff. Eight years after the Falcon 9's debut on the same pad, the rocket launched from the Launch Complex 40 at 12:45 pm and sent a rumble across the Space Coast, which overwhelmed several residents before the start of the work week.

Air Force weather officials are predicting a 70 percent chance of good launch weather for the four-hour June 4 launch window, starting at 12:29 a.m.

SES-12 eventually will be positioned at 95 degrees east longitude, co-located with the SES-8 relay station - the first SES satellite launched by SpaceX.

The satellite will provide direct-to-home TV, broadband and data relay services to customers across the Asia-Pacific region, Australia and the Middle East, according to CBS News. Instead, the satellite will have an electric drive that uses xenon gas pulses to slowly circulate its orbit around the equator for a period of months. "And satellite is one, and sometimes the only, way to connect 2G, 3G and 4G to those markets".

SpaceX is also planning to send astronauts to the International Space Station later this year, marking the first time since the United States space shuttle programme ended in 2011 that people have blasted to space from U.S. soil.
