18 June, 2018, 12:56
Five immigrants are dead and several others were injured when a police chase ended in a crash Sunday in Big Wells southwest of San Antonio, according to KSAT News.
Another passenger, also reported to be a us citizen, is under arrest in connection with the possible case of human smuggling.
US Customs and Border Protection Public Affairs Specialist Yolanda Choates directed questions to the Dimmit County Sheriff's Office.
"This, I think, is a flawless example, of why are borders need to be secured", Boyd said. "The vehicle rolled over a short distance later on highway 85 near Big Wells, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities", the statement said.
Boyd said Border Patrol agents began chasing the SUV around noon and then Dimmit County Sheriff's deputy took over, CNN reported. The passenger in the front seat is reportedly in police custody.
Sheriff Boyd said there needs to be a wall built around the area because it's a "real problem".
Dimmit County, located about 50 miles from the border with Mexico, sees significant traffic from Mexico, Boyd said. The weight of the people causes the vehicle to become unstable and makes it easy for crashes to occur, Border Patrol officials previously told Breitbart Texas. In 2015, an SUV packed with immigrants crashed during a pursuit, killing six passengers.
He said his deputies are often involved in chases pursuing people suspected of smuggling undocumented immigrants and drugs. "It's a problem. This is, I think, a flawless example of why our borders need to be secure".
Boyd said the driver of the Suburban was also injured and was flown to a San Antonio hospital.
"I think we need more boots on the ground, we need more patrol", Boyd said.

All of these pieces could fall perfectly in place, allowing San Antonio to bypass the rebuilding process. For him, they could give up Jaylen Brown , Marcus Smart, and Terry Rozier; plus their 27th overall pick.
Several states including NY and Washington, have passed regulations that impose net neutrality on a local level. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai , who spearheaded the deregulatory move, says the repeal will improve broadband service.
