Google launches standalone podcast app on Android

Google Makes Android Messages for Web Official, Announces Other... Google’s iMessage competitor just got a tiny bit better
Olivia Ford | 21 June, 2018, 20:11

Google on Monday, June 18, United States time, announced that it was officially launching new features for Android Messages including the highly-requested support for web browsers.

Like Google Allo and any other messaging apps that expanded their service to the web, users can visit the Android Messages website to connect the mobile app. To scan the QR code, go to the Messages app on your phone and tap the three-dotted menu on the top-right corner. Along with SMS, users will also be able to send emojis, images, stickers, gifs through the app. The web client supports Google Chrome, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari and more. Google Podcasts may not be as fully featured as some of the competition, and there's no plans for an iOS app, but it's a solid choice for the basics and the addition of Google smarts could be the killer feature here.

Open Messages app on your phone. But messaging, of course, is a must-have - and users may be making picks among the various services that are hard if not impossible to shake. Today Google is finally offering an easy way to get access to podcasts with a new app launching for Android. You can also browse existing threads and resume a conversation from this side. As of now, this feature is only available in English while support for other languages is expected to come at a later stage.

The option to scan a barcode and connect your phone to a desktop is now not available for many users, but I am sure it won't be long before you can do that.

Google is bringing Messages to the web so you can send and receive texts from your computer. The company has tried various messaging reboots in the past with Allo and Hangouts, but now it's betting on the default messaging app on Android handsets.

You can now send and receive text messages from your PC or laptop.

Google doesn't address downloading-which is necessary for offline usage-but it says it will be improving its podcast experience over time with AI. You'll see an inline preview of the link, directly in your conversation. Users will also be able to copy OTP or One Time Password with relative ease. For starters, it has a smart reply feature.
