A year ago in June, the consumer electronics major had announced that it would invest Rs 4,915 crore to double its manufacturing capacity for smartphones and refrigerators at its Noida plant. The company started producing refrigerators at the plant in 2003 while mobile phone production started in 2007.

The facility in Noida, on the outskirts of New Delhi, will allow Samsung to make phones at a lower cost due to its scale when other phone making hubs such as China are getting more expensive, analysts who track the sector said.

"Altogether, over 400,000 people are working in those units and Samsung is spearheading this with a workforce of 70,000 people".

In June 2017, Samsung had announced an investment of ₹4,915 crore to add capacity at the Noida plant, under the Uttar Pradesh government's Mega Policy. The factory will provide jobs to more than 2,000 people. "India today is the second bigger manufacturer of mobile phones". He said it is a matter of pride that India is home to the world's largest Samsung unit. In just about an year of the announcement, Samsung's Noida plant is all-ready to double production.

Samsung's digital display technology uses augmented reality to help fast food restaurants enhance their customer experience by predicting what a person is going to order as they approach the menu. He said the project was an important project in the path to make India a manufacturing hub. Clearly there's untapped potential in the market, and coupled with the fact India is now the world's fastest growing market, Samsung spotted an opportunity.

The Indian mobile phone market grew by 48% YoY in the first quarter of 2018, driven by strong demand from the featurephone segment.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 9 in Brooklyn, New York, on August 9 and is teaming up with ARM to work on a mobile chipset that will run at speeds above 3GHz.

"India is now second in terms of phone manufacturing". A bigger manufacturing plant, spread over 129000 sq. metres, will help Samsung meet the growing demand.
