As Brits swelter in temperatures that rival Jamaica, the Met Office has issued an amber warning for some parts of the United Kingdom until Friday this week, and urged people to stay indoors.

Met Office is warning that there is a 90 per cent probability of heatwave conditions across Portsmouth and Hampshire over the coming days.

Britons are sweltering in a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures set to test national records, the Meteorological Office says.

On Friday, the heat was seriously disrupting travel across Britain.

Elsewhere, cross-Channel rail operator Eurotunnel has cancelled thousands of tickets after "extreme temperatures" caused major disruption to services.

The company took the "unprecedented decision" to stop passengers travelling on Friday if they were due to return on the same day or Saturday in a bid to ease long queues.

And despite today's forecast thunderstorms - which will bring a violent end to the current heatwave - another 30C+ sizzler is set next week.

The Met Office has issued a Heat-Health Watch warning ahead of the scorching hot temperatures, which will see temperatures averaging 30C on weekdays.
