Roseanne Barr explains why her tweet against Valerie Jarrett wasn’t racist

Actress Roseanne Barr waves on her arrival to the 75th Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California, U.S., January 7, 2018.

During the hour-long interview, Roseanne reiterated her regret and insisted that rather than being deliberately racist, her tweet was just poorly worded.

Two months after she was dramatically fired by ABC for a racist tweet, Roseanne Barr, 65, sat down with him on Hannity for her first TV interview to explain what on earth she was thinking when she compared former president Barack Obama's advisor Valerie Jarrett to an ape. And I never meant that and for that I apologize. "I feel like I have apologized and explained and asked for forgiveness and made recompense, that's part of my religion".

Barr shed new light on the motivations behind her harsh critique of former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, adding she "will always defend Israel" and her tweet was simply "asking for accountability" from the author of the botched deal.

Barr also discussed her political journey from the far left to what she feels is the center, pointing to extremism on both sides of the spectrum.

"You know I made a mistake-obviously", she said.

"It cost me everything", Barr said.

"I want to apologize to [the viewers], too", Barr said. "Don't assume you know what I meant, because I think you don't know what I meant, and I would like to make it clearer to you what I did mean".

Barr also indicated she felt like she had apologised enough for her actions.

Barr again said that she was stunned when ABC first contacted her about the tweet.

She said on Wednesday she did not intend to watch Barr's interview.

"I was so sad that people thought it was racist", Barr told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

This is a developing story. It was important for her to atone personally, but also as a "high profile ambassador" as a Jewish woman and a "practitioner of Jewish beliefs".

ABC canceled Barr's namesake sitcom "Roseanne" in May after she tweeted that Jarrett, who is black and was born in Iran to American parents, looked like the offspring of the "Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes". "You were on Ambien", that she had been drinking, and that, "you once said to Larry King you suffer from multiple personality disorder". "I mean seriously. She needs a new haircut".

ABC has since announced the show will return in October as a spinoff called "The Conners" with all the main characters except Barr, who will have no financial or creative involvement.

"No, I didn't know - like a lot of Americans including a lot of people of all types, they didn't know either", she said.
