Josh Gordon Told Teammate He Would Strongly Consider Playing for Jags

Josh Gordon Released by Cleveland Browns Browns to release WR Josh Gordon
Eugene Bates | 17 September, 2018, 06:00

The Indianapolis Colts entered the season needing some wide receiver depth, and there's a chance some will become available as the Cleveland Browns announced they are set to release Josh Gordon.

The Cowboys appear unlikely to deal for Josh Gordon. But the timing of the decision to get rid of the highly talented 27-year-old is odd, and the details are pretty vague.

After the game, several Browns players including quarterback Tyrod Taylor and wide receiver Jarvis Landry said they did not think the unexpected move had an impact on how things played out against the Saints. He missed the entire 2015 and 2016 season due to various suspensions for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

He took the news in stride though, posting an Instagram story thanking the Cleveland Brows faithful for supporting him throughout the rocky ride.

Some vetting of Gordon's current situation has surely already happened, so these five teams could embrace the risk and bring him in.

"This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday".

"Come here bro." It's the three-word sentence from Crowell to Gordon that makes it completely known how the back feels about the wideout. "For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him, but unfortunately we've reached a point where we feel it's best to part ways and move forward". It's been a hell of a journey with you guys.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier that Gordon also preferred to be traded to the Cowboys or the 49ers. I wish all of you nothing but the best.

Gordon would have the ability to be a top target for the Jags and give Bortles a consistent threat for the deep ball, especially with Lee sidelined.

He started the opener despite coach Hue Jackson saying Gordon wouldn't be on the field for the first snap as punishment for missing camp. The receiver led the league with 1,646 receiving yards in 2013, despite the fact that he only played in 14 games.

With Gordon gone, the Browns' passing game will rely more heavily on wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins.
