Trump says media is 'Enemy' after shooting, bomb plot

Pittsburgh synagogue shooting: Brothers and married couple among 11 victims Leaked White House Schedules Prove Trump Watches Cable News Three Times More than Doing Official Work

A few hours before the shooting, Bowers also posted on social media that he blamed a Jewish refugee agency, HIAS, for bringing migrants into the United States, whom he described as "invaders", CNN said.

For example, Bowers had reportedly referred on social media to anger at a group of several thousand impoverished Central Americans now attempting to walk north to the United States - a favourite target of the president's anti-immigrant rhetoric.

"So you're not going to state for the record then?"

"President Trump was honoured by Prime Minister Modi's invitation for him to be Chief Guest of India's Republic Day on January 26, 2019 but is unable to participate due to scheduling constraints", a White House spokesperson told PTI on Monday, when asked about Trump's decision on Modi's invitation. Last week, the NY offices of CNN, the cable network frequently attacked by Trump and his supporters, was evacuated after receiving an explosive device and an envelope containing white powder.

On Friday, a Florida man known to have attended Trump campaign events was charged in connection with mailing at least 13 suspected explosive devices that targeted high-profile Democrats, including former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, of CT, went on Twitter to express dismay at Trump's latest attack on the media: "This is, for all practical purposes, a call for more violence against the press".

CNN's Jim Acosta is no stranger to asking controversial questions during the White House's press briefings. "Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that", Zucker added.

ABC's Jonathan Karl specifically asked Sanders whether the president's words could "inspire or provoke troubled people to do very bad things".

"I think it's irresponsible to blame the president and members of his administration for those heinous acts".

It's a distinction that has been pointed out by Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House Press Secretary, as well as other administration figures. Hallie Jackson of NBC News (above right) wanted to know. "Is he incapable, in the words of some, of "toning it down" and toning down the rhetoric?"

Sanders responded by reiterating that the media jumped to blame the president.

"The very first thing the president did was denounce the killings", she told reporters.

"And if anything, I think it is sad and divisive the way that every single thing that comes out of the media ... is negative about this president", Sanders added.

In the aftermath of the discovery of mail bombs sent to CNN and top Democrats and the shooting massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue, Trump has been blaming the media for the toxic political atmosphere, as attention focuses on the president's own past rhetoric.

Karl followed up by accusing Trump of "harshly" attacking people who received pipe bombs earlier this month.

Trump denounced anti-Semitism over the weekend, but in the past, such as in the wake of racist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, last year, he offered a lukewarm response to calls for him to speak out against white nationalism.

Sanders said that it was outrageous, that anybody other than the individual who carried out the crime would hold that responsibility.
