If elected, Abrams would become the first African-American woman governor of a state.

Both Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp are speaking out against "vile" robocalls from an Idaho white nationalist targeting the Democratic nominee for Georgia governor.

Winfrey praised her as a "change-maker" who represents the values of all Georgians.

In a statement to CNN, Kemp called the robocall "absolutely disgusting" and a message of "unbridled hate and unapologetic bigotry".

Oprah, who campaigned with Abrams in Marietta this week, was derided as a "magical negro".

Last month, former voting rights advocacy groups sued Kemp, whose role makes him Georgia's top election official, accusing the Republican of placing voter registrations on hold to boost his campaign.

Oprah also gave a rousing speech in support of Abrams this afternoon.

"Georgia has always been on a path of change and evolution", Abrams said.

"With respect to Tuesday's election, we deem this a total victory in our fight against Secretary of State Brian Kemp's exact-match scheme", said Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.

The bishop also said, "If you're going to address people based on their color only, I think it's pretty sad".

The preliminary injunction she issued required the state to change its procedures immediately to allow those flagged, some 3,100 individuals, to prove their citizenship more easily, with a USA passport or similar documentation and only to a poll manager.

Kemp's campaign called the incidents "fake" and blamed Abrams. He told a packed crowd the race was a simple choice between economic prosperity under Republican leadership or a turn to "socialism" under Democrats.

Two men protesting Kemp's immigration policy were forcibly removed.

Prominent state Republicans have called the controversy "manufactured" and said it was meant to gin up support for Democrats ahead of the election.
